John Early Museum Middle Culture and Climate Meeting
Grade Level Teams--November 2, 2016
Vision and Mission Statement Development

The culture and climate work at John Early Museum Middle continued on November 2, 2016 (Scroll down if you want to read their journey in chronological order.)  Dr. Margie Johnson used the collaborative inquiry process with grade level teams to develop draft vision and mission statements.  These statements will be used by the leadership team to revise, edit, and finalize the vision and mission statements.  Check out their awesome work in the below pictures.

The draft vision and mission statements will be used at a leadership team meeting where the statements will be revised, edited, and finalized.

Needless to say, John Early Museum Middle is collaborating to further ensure student learning and success.  Way to go, John Early Museum Middle!

John Early Museum Middle Culture and Climate Meeting
Administration--September 28, 2016
Faculty--October 10, 2016

John Early Museum Magnet Middle Prep used the collaborative inquiry process to review culture and climate data, generate multiple theories of causation, and chart next steps.

Dr. Margie Johnson facilitated two meetings.  The first one was with the administrative team.  The second meeting was with the entire faculty.

Administration Meeting--September 28, 2016

Activating and Engaging
What do you think about when you hear the word culture?

Exploring and Discovering
Upon reviewing the culture and climate data provided  through interviews, walkthroughs, and focus groups, what observations do you make?

Organizing and Integrating
Given these observations, what might be some theories of causation?

We used Spend A Buck to reach consensus on the top priority at this time.

Faculty Meeting--October 10, 2016

One of the next steps identified in the administration meeting was to share the data with the entire faculty to get their voice in the process.  The below PowerPoint, meeting pictures, and meeting feedback are from that meeting.

I'm excited to see the learning journey John Early continue to unfold.

A few theories of causation were generated.  Due to time, the decision was made to list these theories and put them in a centralized location where others could comment and add to the theories.

Once that is finished, then a structure for reaching consensus will be used to decide on which theory of causation to address first.

Great work, John Early!

Suggestions for Improvement

  • learning the pros and cons about JEMMMP and how to form a plan
  • enjoyed the sharing of data and how you engaged us
  • great session
  • enjoyed learning a new process
  • engaging
  • I felt we are beginning to peel back the layers and look at the issues.  Also, this discovery process will help us to move forward.
  • learning pros & cons about JEMMMP
  • very information rich
  • collaborative inquiry
  • I agree that more PD is needed for all teachers….especially new teachers that are aligning to the system.  What ever happened to the use of teacher aide faculty?
  • I enjoyed this meeting.  It was very informative.
  • would like to see the next steps subcommittees open to all volunteers not just selected by administration
  • collaborating
  • the creative inquiry, the grouping, the collaboration
  • good eye opener activity
  • it is a beginning and a sign of a move to improvement as a school
  • like the breakdown of understanding of the collaborative inquiry process
  • hearing teachers give their theory of causation and explanation
  • useful data
  • timely
  • good focus on content
  • more time needed
  • the meeting didn’t seem very organized in a way to get things done to help
  • more time to discuss and implement
  • more time
  • Ideas were given and observations were made, but no real solutions were readily available to implement in class/school for tomorrow.
  • create sub-committee of teachers who want to see change
  • more time needed to dive completely into the school data
  • need more time to see the ending results
  • need more time as it was short to understand fully
  • needed more time
  • when moving form task to task/group activities, list the current task at hand on the projector screen.  Restate the directions.
  • more input
  • better consensus
  • more information on theories of causation and what observation they correlate to
